Solicitor Sophie Khan, a specialist
in Taser-related injuries at law firm McMillan Williams, said: 'The
increased use of Taser on children is of great concern, especially when
the scientific assessment carried out by the medical advisers to the
Home Office have classed children as a specific vulnerable group when it
comes to Taser deployment.
'They
state that due to the greater risk of internal injury from Taser barbs
and injury to their eyes and other sensitive regions in the head and
neck region, children should not be Tasered, unless no other course of
action is feasible.
'The
medical advisers had recommended that ACPO consider revising their
guidance and policy on Tasers so that their concerns were mirrored in
the training.
'However,
it seems that no consideration has been given to the recommendations by
the medical advisers which is evidenced from these statistics.'
