A solicitor who specialises in cases where people have been Tasered
said there were very few circumstances in which use of the device was
justified.
"They should be used as an alternative to the firearm; so if
there is a life-threatening incident, either to a member of the public
or to the police, and the police feel that the only way to stop the
life-threatening incident would be to Taser someone, in that scenario I
would say to use the Taser," solicitor Sophie Khan said.
"But anything outside of that, I would say is unlawful and excessive use of force, and in this scenario has led to a death."
